Selecting Schedules for Comparison

Available in: All plans
Last updated: 26-Feb-2026

Overview

Before Kazinex can run a comparison, you need to tell it which two schedules to compare. The Comparison Project Selector lets you designate a Current schedule (the latest version) and a Baseline schedule (the reference version).

The Project Selector

When you open the Comparison tab, you see two project cards side by side:

CardLabel ColourRole
CurrentBlue badgeThe schedule you want to evaluate (usually the latest update)
BaselineOrange badgeThe reference schedule to compare against (usually a previous update or approved baseline)

Each card displays:

  • Project name (truncated if long)
  • Data date — The status date of the schedule
  • Activity count — How many activities the schedule contains
  • File name — The source file name

A privacy Trust Badge confirms that your data stays in the browser.

Choosing a Schedule

You have two options for populating each card:

Option 1: Select from Loaded Projects

Click the project dropdown on either card to choose from schedules already uploaded to your account. The dropdown lists all projects with their names and data dates.

If you marked a schedule as Current or Baseline in the Projects tab, those assignments carry over automatically — the Comparison tab pre-selects them for you.

Option 2: Upload a New File

Drag and drop an XER, MPP, or XML file directly onto either card's upload area. Kazinex parses the file in the browser and loads it into that slot. A progress indicator shows upload and parsing status.

Swapping Current and Baseline

Click the swap button (⇄) between the two cards to reverse the roles — what was Current becomes Baseline and vice versa. This is useful when you want to see changes from the opposite direction (e.g., "what did the baseline have that the current version removed?").

What Happens Next

Once both slots are populated:

  1. Kazinex automatically runs the 8-step comparison engine entirely in the browser.
  2. Results appear in the Comparison Overview with change counts on each tab.
  3. You can immediately browse the Activities, WBS, Resources, Activity Codes, UDFs, and Relationships comparison tabs.

If you change either schedule after the comparison has run, Kazinex re-runs the comparison automatically.

Tips

Use Current / Baseline Marking

If you frequently compare the same two schedules, mark them as Current and Baseline in the Projects tab. The Comparison tab will pre-select them every time you open it.

Compare Progressive Updates

Upload monthly updates and compare each against the previous month to track schedule evolution over time. This is the standard approach for period-over-period reporting in project controls.
