What You Will Learn

By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Log in and navigate the Kazinex dashboard
  • Upload a schedule file using the Import Wizard
  • View activities in the grid and Gantt chart
  • Check your first quality score

Prerequisites

  • A Kazinex account (any tier)
  • A schedule file in .xer, .xml, .mpp, or .mspdi format

Step 1 — Log In to Kazinex

Open your browser and navigate to the Kazinex login page. Enter your email and password, then click Sign In.

  1. Go to app.kazinex.com in your browser.
  2. Enter your credentials and click Sign In.
  3. You arrive at the Dashboard.

What you should see: The Dashboard displays your subscription card on the left, a resources panel in the centre, and a Launch Tool button at the top right.

Step 2 — Open the Schedule Management Tool

The dashboard is your home base. To work with schedules, you need to launch the scheduling tool.

  1. Click Launch Tool in the top-right area of the dashboard.
  2. The scheduling tool opens in a new view.

What you should see: A toolbar across the top and an empty workspace. If you have existing projects, they appear in the Projects tab.

Step 3 — Upload a Schedule File

You can upload schedule files using drag-and-drop or the file picker. The Import Wizard guides you through the process.

  1. Click the Import button in the toolbar, or drag a .xer file directly onto the workspace.
  2. The Import Wizard opens with 7 steps: Upload, Setup, Extraction, Preview, Activities, Relationships, and WBS.
  3. On the Upload step, select your file or confirm the dragged file.
  4. On the Setup step, choose your preferred settings (the defaults work for most files).
  5. On the Extraction step, the system parses your file. Wait for the progress bar to complete.
  6. On the Preview step, review the extracted data. Check that the activity count looks correct.
  7. Click through Activities, Relationships, and WBS to confirm mappings.
  8. Click Import on the final step.

What you should see: A progress indicator while the schedule imports. Once complete, your project card appears in the Projects tab.

Step 4 — View Your Project in the Projects Tab

After a successful import, your schedule appears as a project card.

  1. Click the Projects tab in the main navigation.
  2. Locate your newly imported project card.
  3. Note the project name, activity count, and upload date on the card.

What you should see: A project card with the schedule name, a summary of activities, and a timestamp showing when you uploaded it.

Step 5 — Open the Activities Tab

The Activities tab shows your schedule data in a grid alongside a Gantt chart.

  1. Click on your project card to open the schedule.
  2. Click the Activities tab.
  3. The grid displays activity rows with columns such as Activity ID, Activity Name, Start, and Finish.
  4. The Gantt chart on the right shows task bars on a timeline.

What you should see: A split view with the data grid on the left and the Gantt chart on the right. Each row in the grid corresponds to a bar in the Gantt.

Step 6 — Explore the Grid and Gantt

Take a moment to explore the main workspace tools.

  1. Scroll down in the grid to see all activities.
  2. Click on a column header to sort by that column.
  3. Hover over a bar in the Gantt chart to see a tooltip with activity details.
  4. Use the zoom controls above the Gantt to zoom in and out on the timeline.

What you should see: As you scroll the grid, the Gantt scrolls in sync. Sorting reorders both views. Tooltips show activity name, dates, and duration.

Step 7 — View Your First Quality Score

The Quality tab runs automated checks against industry standards and gives your schedule a score.

  1. Click the Quality tab in the main navigation.
  2. The quality dashboard loads and displays an overall score and grade.
  3. Expand a category (for example, Logic) to see individual checks.
  4. Checks appear as pass (green), warning (amber), or fail (red).

What you should see: An overall quality score (0–100) with a letter grade. Below it, quality check categories with expandable rows showing individual pass/fail results.

Step 8 — Review Your Quality Categories

Understanding your quality breakdown helps you identify areas to improve.

  1. Expand the Duration category to see checks like "High Duration" and "Zero Duration".
  2. Expand the Critical Path category to see checks like "Negative Float" and "Critical Path Length".
  3. Note any failing checks — these are opportunities to improve your schedule.

What you should see: Each category shows a sub-score. Individual checks display the count of affected activities and their severity level.

Step 9 — Verify Your Work

Confirm you have completed all the steps successfully.

  1. Return to the Projects tab. Your imported project card is visible.
  2. Open the Activities tab. Activities display in both the grid and Gantt.
  3. Open the Quality tab. A quality score is calculated and displayed.

What you should see: A fully loaded schedule with activities visible in the grid, bars in the Gantt, and a quality score on the Quality tab. You are ready to explore further.
