Creating Work Packages
Work packages group related documents and workflows under a single deliverable unit — a construction package, a design submittal set, or a commissioning milestone. This guide explains every field and option when creating a work package.
Opening the create form
- Navigate to the Work Packages tab.
- Click New Work Package.
Fields
Header fields
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | Text | Yes | Descriptive name for the package (e.g. "Level 3 — Structural Drawings Package") |
| Reference | Text | No | Package code from your project WBS or contract schedule (e.g. WP-STR-L3-001) |
| Description | Text area | No | What this package contains, its scope, or any special instructions |
| Priority | Dropdown | No | Low / Normal / High / Critical — drives visual highlighting and sort order |
Assignment and dates
| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assigned To | User picker | No | The team member responsible for delivering this package — receives overdue notifications |
| Due Date | Date | No | When the package must be complete. Packages past this date show in Overdue alerts. |
| Start Date | Date | No | When work on the package is expected to begin |
Documents
- Click Add Documents.
- The document picker opens — search or browse the register.
- Select one or more documents to include in this package.
- Click Add Selected.
Documents appear in the Documents list with their current status. Adding a document to a work package does not change its status — it is a reference link only.
You can add documents from multiple disciplines or zones to a single work package. Documents can belong to multiple work packages.
Linked workflows
You can link existing workflow instances to the work package (or start new ones from the work package):
- Click Link Workflow → search for an existing workflow instance.
- Or click Start Workflow → select a template → the new workflow is automatically linked to this package.
Linked workflows appear in the Workflows list with their current status and assignee.
Saving and status
- Click Create Work Package.
- The work package is created with Open status.
- It appears in the Work Packages tab list, assigned to the selected member (if any).
Editing after creation
Open the work package → click Edit to modify any field, add/remove documents, or update the due date. Status transitions are covered in the Work Package Lifecycle guide.
