Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Kazinex?

Kazinex is a browser-based schedule analysis tool for construction and engineering projects. It reads Primavera P6 XER files, Microsoft Project files (MPP/MSPDI), and XML exports, then provides quality checks, comparison, Gantt charts, and AI-powered analysis — all running in your browser.

Is Kazinex free?

Kazinex offers a 30-day free trial with full Pro features. After that, a Free plan provides core analysis features. The Pro plan ($29.99/month or $299.99/year) unlocks all features including AI Copilot, collaboration, and advanced editing. See Subscription Plans.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Kazinex runs entirely in your web browser. There's nothing to download or install.

Which browsers are supported?

Kazinex works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. Chrome is recommended for the best performance with large schedules.

Does Kazinex require Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project?

No. Kazinex is a standalone tool. You only need the exported schedule files (.xer, .xml, .mpp). You do not need a P6 or MS Project licence to use Kazinex.

Privacy & Security

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Schedule files (XER, XML, MSPDI) are parsed entirely in your browser. No file data is sent to any server. The only exception is binary .mpp files, which require a server-side conversion step (with your explicit consent). See Security & Privacy.

Where is my schedule data stored?

In your browser's memory while the tab is open. When you close the tab, the data is cleared. Kazinex does not store schedule data on any server.

Is Kazinex GDPR compliant?

Yes. Since schedule data never leaves your browser, there's no personal data processing for schedule content. Only account metadata (email, name, subscription) is stored server-side. See Security & Privacy.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

All server-side data (profile, subscription records, AI usage logs) is deleted. Schedule data was never stored server-side. Browser localStorage can be cleared manually.

File Formats

What file formats can I import?

  • Primavera P6 XER (.xer) — client-side
  • Primavera P6 XML / PMXML (.xml) — client-side
  • Microsoft Project XML / MSPDI (.xml) — client-side
  • Microsoft Project Binary (.mpp) — server-assisted conversion
  • Kazinex Native (.kaz) — client-side

See Supported Formats.

What file formats can I export?

XER, PMXML, MSPDI, Kazinex (.kaz), and CSV. See Supported Formats.

What's the maximum file size?

XER files up to 100 MB are supported. Files over 1,000 activities are parsed in a background thread.

Why can't I open my .mpp file offline?

Binary .mpp files require a server-side conversion service. If you're offline, export the file as XML from Microsoft Project first, then open the .xml in Kazinex.

What P6 version is supported for export?

XER exports use P6 version 20.0 format, compatible with Primavera P6 v20 and later.

Quality Checks

What quality standard does Kazinex use?

Kazinex quality checks are aligned with the DCMA 14-Point Assessment — the industry standard used by the U.S. Defence Contract Management Agency. The system includes 34 checks across 9 categories. See Quality Overview.

Can I customise the quality check thresholds?

Yes. Go to the Quality Settings page to adjust thresholds, weights, and enable/disable individual checks. You can also choose from 4 system presets. See Quality Settings.

What's a good quality score?

  • 90–100 (A): Excellent — schedule meets industry best practices
  • 80–89 (B): Good — minor issues to address
  • 70–79 (C): Average — several areas need improvement
  • Below 70 (D/F): Needs work — significant issues with schedule quality

See Quality Score.

AI Copilot

What can the AI Copilot do?

The AI can query your schedule (filter activities, analyse float, check quality), make edits (add/update/delete activities, relationships, resources), and generate new projects from industry templates. See AI Copilot.

Does the AI see my schedule data?

The AI receives query results and summaries, not the raw schedule file. Your schedule is queried locally in the browser, and only the relevant data snippets are included in the AI conversation.

What are token limits?

Tokens are units of text processed by the AI model. Free users get 50,000 tokens/month, Pro users get 500,000/month, and Enterprise users have unlimited tokens. See AI Copilot Overview.

Can the AI make mistakes?

Yes. AI responses should always be reviewed. For schedule modifications, the AI shows a confirmation card before applying any changes. All AI changes are undoable with Ctrl + Z.

Collaboration

How does real-time collaboration work?

Kazinex uses Yjs CRDTs with a WebSocket relay server. The host starts a session and shares an invite link. All participants connect through the relay and their changes sync automatically. See Collaboration Overview.

Is collaboration data encrypted?

The session includes an encryption key in the URL hash (never sent to the server). The relay server forwards binary CRDT updates but cannot read the schedule content.

What happens if I lose connection during a session?

Kazinex reconnects automatically. If offline persistence is enabled, your changes are preserved locally and merged when the connection is restored.

Can I control what collaborators can do?

Yes. The host can set detailed permissions — from full editing access to read-only viewing. Six presets are available, or you can create custom permission sets with 34 individual scopes. See Sharing & Permissions.

Editor

Can I create a schedule from scratch in Kazinex?

Yes. Click Create New Project in the Editor to build a schedule from scratch with WBS, activities, relationships, calendars, and resources. See Create New Project.

Are edits saved automatically?

Edits are kept in browser memory. To save, export the schedule in your preferred format (XER, MSPDI, XML, or KAZ). There is no auto-save to a server.

Can I undo changes?

Yes. Ctrl + Z undoes the last action. Ctrl + Y redoes. The undo stack supports all edit operations. See Undo & Redo.

Does Kazinex calculate the schedule (CPM)?

Yes. Press F9 or click Calculate to run a full CPM forward/backward pass. This updates early/late dates, float, and the critical path. See Schedule Calculation.

Comparison

How do I compare two schedules?

Open the Comparison tab and select two schedule versions — typically a baseline and a current update. Kazinex matches activities between them and highlights all changes. See Comparison Overview.

What changes does comparison detect?

Added activities, deleted activities, date changes, duration changes, float changes, status changes, relationship changes, WBS changes, and more. See Activity Changes.

Printing & Export

Can I print the Gantt chart?

Yes. Use Print to generate a print-ready view of the Gantt chart with customisable page layout, headers, and scale. See Printing.

Can I export back to P6 format?

Yes. Export to XER for direct import into Primavera P6, or export to PMXML for the XML variant. See Export XER.
