Canvas Layout Modes
Report Forge supports grid and freeform canvas modes. Choose the mode before placing many components because switching layout modes can remove the current body layout.
Grid mode
Use grid mode for structured reports that need predictable rows, columns, and responsive organization. It works well for dashboards, repeated KPI rows, tables, and standard report sections.
Freeform mode
Use freeform mode for print-first layouts where precise placement matters. It works well for board packs, formal PDF pages, cover pages, and custom arrangements.
Selection rule
| Need | Recommended mode |
|---|---|
| Fast structured report | Grid |
| Reusable dashboard-style page | Grid |
| Exact PDF positioning | Freeform |
| Cover page or branded pack | Freeform |
| Heavy tables with predictable flow | Grid |
Good practice
Pick the layout mode early, place core components, then style. Avoid switching modes late in the design unless you are prepared to rebuild the page layout.
